I am getting really close to having my project boat back on the water. Only one BIG problem standing in my way. I can't seem to find a replacement upper drive. It is a '96 OMC Cobra SX 4.3L with a 1.66:1 ratio. My mechanic says that I should be looking for a "22:23" drive, but I have no idea what that means.
I have found a guy selling a whole outdrive with a 1.85:1 ratio, I have no idea if the boat would run right with that ratio in it. Seems like I've found one with a slightly lower gear number also (maybe a 1.60 or something like that).
I know the OMC Cobra SX is bolt on interchangable with the Volvo SX but I don't know how big a change the gear ratio will make. Can I use a different ratio drive and just swap a different prop on it, or am I going to have to find a 1.66?
