Replaced battery and solenoid at same time in my volvo 151. Now the starter, tilt, and gauges are all dead. The only reponse I can get with test light is between solenoid ground and battery. Crossed wires in process of replacing solenoid and created spark. Pushed circuit breaker and looked at fuses to no avail. What do you suggest I do next?

Re: dead electrical system

First, when you get a chance, just explain a little more what happened exactly and what you did afterwards and what you have tested. I'm not sure from your post.

However, let me, off the top of my head, say check that breaker. (Is it the main breaker for your entire boat?) It may have been fried or not completely reset. Get a multi-meter and make sure you have 0 ohms (a short) across that breaker. If you have an open (very high resistance) the breaker is either dead or not reset.

If you don't have a multi-meter you can simply jumper the terminals (bypass the breaker) and see if that restores power. Be sure to use a heavy gauge wire if you are going to jump it.

Also, check your battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight.
