Hi all
Yesterday I managed to hit someone's lobster buoy. It got caught in my prop
breaking the sheer pin.Fortunately I was able to row my family safely to a beach. Here is my question when I pull on the starter recoil rope i get no resistance whatsoever. What else have I damaged? Could it be the the lower
gears, driveshaft? Frankly I'm a little freaked out. Hopefully an easy fix.
Any ideas?

You could have possibly sheared a flywheel key.

No resistance whatsover?? That would have to be hard to relate to the lobster bouy. Sounds more like the starter pawl has fallen off. You will have to remove the recoil starter to look.

However if the flywheel key is sheared or the crankshaft busted, the flywheel should rotate when you pull the rope, even if nothing else does. That should give at least Some resistance.

If the drive shaft or gears were damaged you would still have compression when you pull the rope, as normal.

Thanks for the replies. There is a little resistance but it is not turning the engine over. On some pulls the rope does not recoil but if I move the flywheel
a little bit it recoils fine.Something is not engaging but I don't know what it is.
The compression on this motor was or is very good.Again, hopefully this is nothing too major.
Thanks
