My lanyard has been in my seat pocket for nearly 22 yrs. IA DNR will now fine me for operating solo w/o it. Not a bad idea anyway. I can shim a gear set to zero, but I'll be darned if l can remember how to hook up @ the kill switch. Any pics or help?

If the lanyard has been in your seat pocket for 22 years, how are you starting the boat? You sure the kill switch is good?

If it's the same lanyard and control as mine you would toggle the switch to the down no run position, then put the plastic clip on the switch and then toggle the switch up.
That holds the lanyard in place.

Maybe it is a new high tech remote lanyard :noidea:

I have a feeling the kill switch has been by-passed., so the lanyard will do no good unless the wiring is checked/corrected.

someone 22 years ago most likely pulled the lanyard and flipped the switch back up

if so, pull the switch down, put the lanyard loop over the toggle, and flip it back up.

Thanks GA_Boater , marc c , tpenfield . The switch works fine. I removed the lanyard the first year I owned the boat and accidentally pulled it while camping. Five minutes of freaking out w/no run after starting...until I flipped the kill switch down and bagged the darn lanyard. I'll follow Marc's advice. If I still can't figure it out, I'll wear it on my wrist when solo, turn off the key and wave with my right hand if I'm stopped by a water cop.

The kill switch has a 'cover' over it. That cover will have a small slot in the top of it. That slot is so you can push the switch lever down, using a small screwdriver or the key, if it was pushed up (into the closed position) without the lanyard on it. Once the switch is down, put the lanyard loop over the switch lever and push it up again. Now if you pull on the lanyard, it flips the switch to the off/open position. :D
