Hi All. Still working on my 1978 115 rude.Starboard side top and bottom cylinders running perfect. Port side not hitting. At about 2600 rpm on muffs the lower port cyl. will try to "wake up". But nothing from the other one. Afraid to rev much higher out of the water. Will it hurt it? Have very good spark, will jump the length of the boot, is blue with a loud snap. Pulled carbs, it has 2 two barrels that each side shares. cleaned all jets and replaced with new gaskets but still won't run right. It seems odd that one side runs good and the other side doesn't with common carbs. Did pull the port side plugs while motor running and they are dry.Changed power pack and both coils to no avail. Took plugs out of star. side and installed in port. No help. If you guys can't help, it's a trip to the shop that I can't afford. Thanx for any help. tgh3fan

Re: Dead port side cylinders

You're describing clogged carbs. Don't rev it like that without a load. Also keep in mind that the dry cylinders aren't getting fuel or oil. Pistons don't live long like that.

Thanx for input. I thought about the lack of lubrication later. Hope no damage done. I only found 1 set of jets on carbs. I'm thinking I cleaned the hi speed jets. Where are the lo speed jets located? Guess I need a manual instead of asking dumb questions. The jets I located were above the bowl line behind screws. Thanx tgh3fan

Re: Dead port side cylinders

Each carburetor has two high speed jets located behind the drain plugs in the float bowl; and two idle jets located behind the plugs on the sides of the carburetor bodies.

See the carburetor diagram in the parts catalog for your motor: http://shop.evinrude.com/

The best thing is to get the carbs apart and soak them in carb cleaner. Rebuild them with new BRP kits and make sure we have no fuel / oil delivery issues.

You can shoot an aerosol carb cleaner through a carb passage on one carb, then do the same passage on the other carb. Check the flow rates out of the end opening to make sure each passages flows at the same rate. You will be able to see passages that are clogged that way.
