i just picked up a 17 foot aluminum v hull with a 60 hp mercury. when i got from slow to fast there is a dead spot where the motor tires to stall. the boat runs great at WOT and pretty good just putting around. But it wont go the speed that i want it. It is either way too fast or way too slow, at about 50% -75% throttle it wants to stall. if i give it too much throttle and back down just right it wont stall. But if i leave it in that range eventually it will sputter out and stall.

Do I need a good tune up or a newer motor?
This one is approx 1990 i got the whole set up for $1800, 17' Fischer SV2 w/ 60 hp mercury

You need to clean the carbs, then link-n-sync. Most likely you have crud in the carbs
