Right now I'm at the bad dream stage hopefully not to enter the full blown out NIGHTMARE. I say this because I'm pretty patient, knowing people make mistakes buttt you need to be responsible and fix them.
I bought my brand new boat mid-summer last year. Took her out few times and I noticed while at anchor my bilge would automatically start bailing from time to time, checked out the lower compartments couldn't see any water but made a note, otherwise she was great. This spring, May, I made an appointment! to bring her in to install an auxilary battery and switch and to check out the possible leak. "When do you need it,?" "Don't rush it just do a good job" " OK we'll call you" About a month passed, "You haven't called is everything all right?" "We installed the battery & switch ok, but we took the boat out to the lake and discovered a leak in the seal of the exhaust, we have to remove the engine to re-seal it, no problem we'll get right on it. Good want to get out on the 4th. The 4th of July passed no boat. NOW I'm upset, it's been 7 weeks this is ridiculous. They call me late the next day, Sat, the boats ready. I go hauling 45 miles with 2 kids to get my boat. We take her the following Sunday. We launch her, the trim gauge isn't working, I tye up to ramp, my son checks to see if the motors in the water,, yes,, ok we pull out, she's not handling too good hmmm we're more than half way between the launch and a small island on the lake. The engine starts smoking like a cigar, open the hatch, water in the eng comp. like crazy. NOTHINGS WORKING
We sit on the island totally bumed for a couple hours. Decide to cross the no wake area to trailer it, MAN, She's overheating, Bell and Whistles going off taking on water trim won't go up. Am I at the NIGHTMARE stage yet.
Drag her limp back to the dealer.WHAT DID YOU DO!!! We'll get right on it.
It's been a week...Nothing YET:mad:

Re: Dealer Bad Dream

Over the years i have bought over 13 new boats, 7 from dealer reps and 6 from multi brand marina's...they all had one thing in common, they were very well researched prior to me buying from them. Why does this matter,'cause i am not spending my money on a less than perfect boat,so why waste time with a dealer who is less than 100% professional,in both sales & maintainance. In your case you need to get more pro-active with the dealer,Get-in-there-face attitudes generally get response, if for no other reason other than to give you your boat back..fixed correctly, and in a reasonable amount of time. Go to the shop and ask to speak to the owner/manager, tell him your tired of this nonsense and you want your boat fixed, and returned within a week...be nice ..be reasonable and keep the tone of your voice low, a temper will not achive anything , do-not accept anything less than what you want from them.In the same time contact the boat manufacturer and ask for the sales manager for your territory...explain the situation in the same manner as to the dealer.....After the visit and the phone call, wait 2 days and follow up with another visit and another phone call.....Keep after these people, pop in and ask to watch the progress..in general be a very polite pain in the *ss, right now its a slow market for new boats..these people cannot afford to have bad publicity to further hinder sales....Keep us informed.

I gotta say on new boat purchase, I convinced my old man to buy a Baja islander and will never look back. Thing has been a dream boat. 496 HO, thru hull exhaust and a well made boat all round. Not bad for a family bow rider.

And that has to do with this thread...how?:D

Re: Dealer Bad Dream

Try calling the company that made the boat, they may be be able to "suggest" to the dealer that they get this under control.

Be nice, give them a chance to not do anything before you start a rant with them, you never know, this may get cleared up in a hurry.

Certainly worth a try.

Re: Dealer Bad Dream

I can empathize with your predicament. There is a thread here that has been closed dealing with a new boats defects. The problems the poor new owner had to deal with. The substandard repair, quick coverups the dealer and manufacturer tried to force on the owner.
I do not understand why it was closed in the middle of the issue. I feel that boat industry politics is what caused it. The manufacturer I believe pressured the closure of the thread.
All that you can do as the customer is demand to be made whole. The dealer and manufacturer will, sad to say, give you a very hard time. They have your money and once they received that, any problems you have with your boat, bring to their attention, will be an annoyance to them.

Stay strong. I wish you luck. BoatsUSA is a forum that does not cave to manufacturers pressure. Post your issue there.
I believed that this forum was an advocate for the boating community. I fear not after seeing a thread started by a new boat purchaser, looking for support, was closed.
Sad, very sad.

Re: Dealer Bad Dream

It really wasn't going anywhere, just alot of people ranting.

I seriously doubt it was because Donzi applied pressure to iboats.

Maybe TD will explain why it was closed.

5150, you hit right on the nose,"It really wasn't going anywhere, just alot of people ranting." Donzi had nothing to do with it. he had over 4,000 hits on the thread, so he got his point across, that he was unhappy. he has been invited to post the results, when they come to an agreement.

I do beg to differ. The OP was keeping those who followed the thread informed of all events/ communications between him and DONZI. I for one, as I am sure many, wanted to see how this High Line expensive boat company handled their retail customer. Opinion was going in favor of the customer. I am certain that DONZI found this extremely disturbing and would use whatever avenues available to them to halt such opinion.
He informed DONZI of the thread in IBOATS. Shortly after the thread was closed.

I too dont understand the closing of the thread...so what if people were ranting...this is a forum, not a classroom, opinions and suggestions were the the predominate thread line.....I feel like a kid who spoke out-of-turn.
