yikes
however its also up to the consumer to have a look at the sizes stamped on the coupler and ball.
thats why the warning plate is there.
mistakes happen, glad this one did not result in injury or property damage. most folks wont stop and check the lug nuts either and thats on a warning tag as well.
I always look at the ball and coupler anytime I hook one up. I have seen incorrect balls and couplers to many times.

I'd have to say that the ultimate responsibility for the trailer rests with the person doing the driving. I always triple check my trailer prior to taking off and then check over everything at every stop.

If your going to be hauling a couple of tons of boat down the road you need to be responsible enough to do the job.

One of our guys at work pulled a gooseneck car hauler trailer all the way from arizona to north carolina with the neck just sitting on the ball.It never locked in and he never checked it.
It destroyed the ball and the neck on the trailer.
Imagine the damage that could have done.A 34 foot trailer with a 250,000 dollar nextel cup car crashing into some poor family.
I think they should have fired him.He never checked it in 2000 miles...
