Having determined that I need to decarb my motor, I'm in a quandry. Can't get the boat into the driveway because of the extreme angle of the slope. Where do you guys do this? On the street? what do the neighbors say? At the lake, on the trailer on the ramp, or at a dock? Do people complain about the crud you blow into the lake?

Sorry to be so dense, I never did this before, in fact I've never seen it done before.

thanks,
jtw

At a friends house. ! :)

Bring it to my house if you want.

I load mine up in the driveway, let it sit, then take it to the lake to blow it out. Take new plugs and tools along just in case you need them.

And do it at a time when you can be 'discrete" as possible - it blows an incredible amount of thick smoke and, for me at least, I'd rather not have it bothering other people. Keep the wind in mind. I launch at a river so I go up stream or down stream of the ramp (depending on wind) and try to do it late in the evening and/or during the week so there's (hopefully) nobody around.

If you do this at home be sure to let your neighbors know what you are doing so they don't call the fire department :D :D :D

So if I'm reading this correctly, I should go to a ramp used predominately by jetskiers on a Saturday afternoon, preferably a holiday weekend, park it in the middle of a two-lane ramp, and proceed?

LOL jtexas... sounds like a good idea :)
Hey is this decarbing stuff anything like the OMC fogging oil? Like many others here I had never heard of it before.

No, it's different stuff. fogging oil is, well oil, to coat the insides of the engine for storage. It also burns off with thick smoke though.

The de-carbing stuff is some sort of solvent. You get it into your engine (using your method of choice), let it soak, dissolve, do it's work. Then burn it off - along with the carbon it's dissolved. Some people also use this stuff in the gasoline routinely for prevention. See Forums' FAQ section and search for decarbing for more than you ever wanted to know.
