I have read the frequent asked question posts on this subject.I went to our one boat dealership and also to Napa and could not find seafoam or deep creep.I did how ever find a product made by Evinrude johnson called carbon guard which is a gasoline additive for minimizing carbon build up.
Will this do the job or should i keep searching for seafoam so that i can do a decarb on my 110hp Evinrude.
Thanks

Re: Decarb question.

Carbon guard is a good long term maintenance product.

Your OMC/Bombardier dealer should have the OMC engine cleaner (decarbonizer). Ask them what they use.

If they don't know what you are talking about, you do not want to have anything to do with that dealer..

DJ
They do not know what i am talking about and for that reason and many more in the past nine years of boating is why I started searching on the web for answers. There service and helpfulness is brutal.Anyways I take it that this carbon guard is good maintenance but does not do the job that seafoam does.I guess i will keep searching.
Thanks
By the way I try very hard not to have anything to do with theese guys.

Ity's a shame that boat dealers have to treat customers that way. Unfortunately, is all too common.

Do a search using the words "Canada" and "decarb".

It seems to me that someone in Canada found a source for SeaFoam.

Your correct DJ.
"Piston Ring" stores in Manitoba have it.
Auto-Value stores also have it.

Re: Decarb question.

I hope this doesn't cross the line into thread creep, apologies if so.

But... I've used Carbon guard. Then, either because of someting I'd read or been told, I quit using it when I used OEM oils - e.g. Johnson/Evinrude or Quicksilver oils. The rationale is that witin the mysterious additives that OEM oils supposedly have (as opposed to more generic oils), is an anti carbon additive.

So my question is - if you're using, say, Johnson/Evinrude oil (standard grade, bought in bulk), is this roughly equivalent to adding Carbon guard to the mix?

Thanks for the info.

Re: Decarb question.

From John AB in outboard non repair...

Hello,

Probably not the right forum for this but when I posted about decarbing my Johnson fellow Canucks asked to post if I ever found a supplier of Sea Foam in Canada.

Well, I just returned from Sioux Lookout in Ontario and the local auto parts store carried Sea Foam. Stated they just started importing it. The store was Aztek Auto Parts. They stated any Auto Plus parts store in Ontario will now have sea foam products.

Again I apologize for posting this here if I am violating any posting rules etc.

Re: Decarb question.

DJ
I went back to my worst nightmare(boat dealership)
and asked the fellow what they use to loosen up the carbon deposits on the pistons and after prying a few teeth from this not so helpful person he directs me to a product called OMC Engine Tuner.Does anyone know if this will work the same as seafoam or deep creep?Reading the label it seems to be what I am looking for.
Thanks.
