Re: Decarb ValveTech

Follow the directions on the valvetect can. Most are similar but not all the same. Also depends on how severly the deposits are.If it is a relatively new motor 1 can for the entire motor will do.If it is an old motor that has never been decarbed before you will need 1 can per cylinder.Charlie

I do not think that one spray can is going to do your 150 much good, also, you must be VERY carefull spraying anything into your carbs with the engine running that doesnt have some lubrication in it. Contact them and find out if id does. Thats the reason we reccomend Seafoam as it has a lubrication quality.

Re: Decarb ValveTech

ValveTect Marine Motor De-Carb states it is for use on all 2 & 4 cycle engines. It is a naptha based cleaner>>>"CONTAINSPetroleum Naptha(8030-30-6),2-butoxy ethanol(111-76-2),9-octadecenoic acid(Z)-,ammonium salt (544-60-5), liquified petroleum propellant(68476-86-8),2-pentanol,4-methyl-(108-11-2)"<<<<<
Now as far as how well it works>>>you need to be more of a chemist. I tryed it in my 1991 GMC 5.7L & it seemed ok, I will be using it in my 115hp Johnny before I lay it up for the winter.
One thing I found curious, It said to NOT let the engine stall, but to shut it off after spraying the can into the air intake. Then let sit for 15 minutes before resarting. I would have thought it would need a bit more time to soak & to let the engine stall out as to get the combution chamber "wetted" with the cleaner???

Re: Decarb ValveTech

I did my decarb according to the post in FAQ. I was only able to get 1 15 minute run let it sit & on the second run I only got 5 Minutes before the gallon ran out. It did smoke a little & let out a little bit of black residue from exaust but not as much as I was expecting, maybe it is because the engine is a 2001 & I don't know what kind of maintenance the previous owner gave it. I will continue to do this once ayear.

m1rodrig, it's a good speculation if that motor has been running properly you aren't gonna have much carbon. A properly running modern 2stroke outboard in't gonna have much carbon problems with the modern oils and motor technology...just a thought :)
