Re: decarb with engine tilted up or down?
I have not done this, so I am talking out my bung hole.
If the pistons are down, away from the spark plug hole, and you spray the de-carb in, it will just run out thru the ports.
I would, one at a time, rotate the flywheel so the piston is up somewhere before top dead center, and then spray that one cylinder. Wait awhile, do the next and so on.
The major carbon will be in the combustion chamber, and around the rings. This method would seem to help the cleaner "wick" around the pistons, and get to the rings better.

Spraying the de-carb into the exhaust port, will clean your ehaust pipe. Who cares?
Spraying de-carb into intake ports will clean the crank case. It's not dirty!

I would suggest turning the steering wheel all the way to one side, raise the engine all of the way, and do this to one bank of cylinders. This way, the tops of the pistons will be at their most horizontal position, so the fluid doesn't have to fight gravity as much.
Then, turn the wheel the other way and do the other bank.

Now, wait the desired length of time, put the plugs in, and run the **** out of it.
