I want to perform a decarb on my 91 90hp evinrude with VRO, do I need to do anything differently because of the oil injection system?

Re: decarb

HI, I know this is not my thread, but if I may ask a stupid question. I hear allot about decarbing, what exactly those that mean? Does that mean removing the carbs and rebuilding them. Thanks.

Re: decarb

decarb = decarbonizing.

Removing the carbon deposits from the combustion chamber.

Re: decarb

Thanks, must be the same thing I do at the end of the season when I spray OMC carbon cleaner directly into the carborators with the pressurized can of cleaner, just before I fog it for storage. I guess the word decarb throu me off.
Thanks for bearing with me.

Re: decarb

Since the mid 80's most engines use a fuel primer solenoid, with a schrader valve on the side of the red lever. You can connect the can of Bombardier Engine Tuner or the fogging oil direct to that valve for easy operation. Eliminates having to take the airbox cover off. Nice feature.

Where is this schrader valve at. I have a 1995 intruder 175 hp.Do you need anything special to hook up to it? Can you decarb using seafoam deep creep through this and do exact same job as spraying with air cover off into each carb.I want to decarb this spring so any advise would be great.

Re: decarb

The Schrader valve on your engine is mounted on the fuel primer solenoid on the front of the engine. Look for the red lever on the valve. It has a small cap like on a car tire valve stem which must be inscrewed to reveal the valve threads.

Re: decarb

deep creep does not have the fitting to fit the schrader valve. it has to go thru the intake.

i have neen using this method for years, before the schrader valve. just seafoam, rather than deep creep, they are the same thing, just different packaging.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

Re: decarb

Tashasdaddy,

Not to be too dense but let me make sure the OP's question (and mine) is answered. Are you saying that it is OK to use 1 gallon of pre-mix even though you have not disabled the VRO pump which to the best of my limited knowledge would still be adding oil? Or does the VRO somehow sense the addition of another source of oil and shut down the supply? Or maybe it does not matter? Thanks.

Re: decarb

Run your normal fuel mix.

If you don't mix oil because of the vro, then don't mix it for decarb.

If you do mix oil, then mix it for decarb.

Note: It's ok to use more oil than you need at least for a short amount of time (within reason). So, if you're decarbing a few motors and some are premix and some aren't just use the premix+seafoam on all of 'em.
