i decarbed my motor this weekend using seafoam. It ran fine in the tank but when it took it to the lake it would not start??? It finally started but would not run at wot then all of a sudden it kicked in. now it acts like this everytime. What did I do when I decarbed I touched nothing else and made no adjustments of any kind!?? What is the cause of my hard starting and poor running engine. BTW once the engine warms up I have not problems until time to restart(warm or cold) then its the same al over again?

Btw JB
the new prop gave me 6 more mph over the last one
and I went down an 1" in pitch. My tiny tach should be here this week. So I hould be have a rmp reading this weekend.

Your other post showd up under a post about a 88 150?????? for some reason.

Anyway, what brand and type spark plugs did you replace in the motor? Did you spray the decarb in the throat of the carb or use the schrader valve on the primer solenoid?

Good luck!

Re: decarbed now won't start?????

i used the champion plugs that it called for in the manual like qv77... or something like that
I did not replaece the plugs again after the decarb they had just 1 hour on them from the prev weekend(*brand new*)

I think that other post is a glitch or something(It lost my first post) I dont have a 88 150
I have an 89 28 johnson.

I used two cans of decarb I put one in the tank and used the spray though the carb throat.

We decarb the motor with the old plugs and then install the new ones. With that much decarb it may have fouled them out. A new set is worth a try and then if thats not it you'll have a spare set anyway.

Good luck!

thats what I was hoping for. the smallest thing possible now if your going to maintain with seafaom how does that not foul them out?? and sould it foul them out every time I turn the engine off??? looks like if you burned the funk off once them that would be enough??

buttonhook -
If a little is good it doesnt mean a lot is better. It can foul out the plugs thats why we put new ones in after the decarb. The small ammount you are running in the fuel (if Sea Foam recommends to do so and you followed their instructions) should burn easily.

chumbucket-
I dont recall ever having to replace gaskets after a decarb job but I guess its possible if it sits in the motor too long. I have seen a couple of cases where a guy decarboned the motor and let it sit for a couple of weeks (probably longer). The decarb dried all the oil from the sleeves and the cylinders with the exhaust ports open rusted and then there were ring problems.

Re: decarbed now won't start?????

I put in like 1 once per gallon of fuel I think that should have been ok. I will run out the rest of this tank and then change plugs and see if it improves again. I can still see very little white smoke coming from the exhaust. I think the plug are fouling as well but I wanted another opinion.
thanks!
