I have an older, 1990 model 225. I put this engine on a later model mid section, and the exhaust ports seem to have excessive oil and carbon build up, as well as what I can see on the piston tops thru the spark plug holes. I am familar with the shrader valve on the choke solenoid. What is the process for doing this? The motor runs fine.
As a bonus question, Where does the purple wire from the powerpack terminate??

Thanks..

Waht you need to do for the carbon build is to run a can of evinrude johnson engine tuner thru it and let it soak for 16 hours, that will eat and blow most of the carbon out. The purple wire for the pack sually runs thru the amphenol connector back into the wiring harness, you may also have a purple wire on the terminal strip usually the starboard side of powerhead. But purple is switched 12 volts

Thanks for the reply! I have never needed to de-carb an engine, but have read about a few times.
Determined the purple wire went back to the VRO pump, that I removed from the engine.
Thanks again and look at my new post with a new question on cooling.
All of you Guys, that do, or did this for a living are a great help for us that know just enough to be dangerous! I am a automotive mechanic and machinest by trade. I understand the internals and principle of operation. Hell, they are 2 strokes. But the manufactures don"t stay with the same design very long!
