Decarbing for an I/O?

I was reading about decarbing 2 stroke and 4 stroke outboards in the FAQ's and was wondering if the same applied for an I/O?

You Can decarb. an I/O motor by pouring Water down the Carb. throat,.........

But,....... Why,..??.....
