I just bought my first motor 7.5 johnson. I am still learning about what makes boat motors tick, and how to take care of them by reading this forum. Can anyone tell me exactly how to decarb it before I try it on my own and tear something up.

thanks

Re: decarbing

everybody seems to recommend Sea Foam. You can get it at Napa Auto Parts. Get the bottle to put in gas and a bottle of Deep Creep, same stuff only aerosol. It DOES NOT replace the oil though. Spray some in the spark plug holes and in the carb. It seems to be the most versatile fluid I've used.

Make sure that you warn the neighbors before you do it or they will call the fire dept. There is more smoke than you can imagine. If you can do it on a lake/river in an out of the way place that would be better. Take some fresh plugs with you to change after you have finished.
