Hey guys I am still a bit of a newbie. Your advice last summer helped me out greatly and I need it again. My question is decarbing, I assume you mean some type of additive to get rid of the carbon build up on the pistons and exhaust ports?? If it is an additive, any particular brand you guys trust? FYI I have a 1984 75HP Chrysler. Many thanks for your help.

Re: Decarbing

Jason, there are the additives, which you add to the fuel, and there is the spray type, which is sprayed directly into the carb while the engine is running.
I like the spray type better because it seems to wrok fine, and the additives tend to mess with the octane of the fuel, like Sta-Bil does. Being my motor is a Force (or 1989 Chrysler), I reccommend you use the spray type. It is available at most marine supply houses, and many auto stores. I like ValvTect Marine motor Decarb Cleaner.
But any of them, "Powertune", "Seafoam" ect will definately help cut-down on carbon deposits....And carbon can ruin an engine under certain conditions. So it's good insurance.
