Hi all.
My late fishing buddy had 13.5 ft fibreglass sea-nymph with a 1970 25hp rude sportster (25002ec 65859) on the back. The boat has sat for three years and is generally in good condition but we're going though his stuff and his wife wants to sell the boat. We never used his boat as it was always a bit of a struggle for him to get out and about.
I spent this afternoon just cleaning out the old fuel tanks of three year old gunk (Thanks Rodbolt for the dozen nuts and bolts trick). I'm going to be surprised if the carb doesn't need a rebuild We dont really want to have to buy the manual from the US if we can avoid it so I need a few points to get it to a saleable condition. I've got 115 compression on both and have looked here for the plugs J6C at .030" , I beleive has a points gap .020" and 50:1 mix. Motor turns over smoothly.
Questions I have are :
Whats the carb float height and set up for minxture. It does have an exteral rich/lean control.
I've read here , but not actually seen, that the timing is set so as the stator rotates, there is a mark on the cam that the carb linkage should touch after that point ( does this make sense)?
To remove the lower unit , undo the six bolts drop the lower unit and then remove the clamp from the shifter inside the lower leg.
EP 80/90 for lower unit gear lube ?
Thanks.

Something that may well help you in getting this motor for sale, since you do not have the manual, are exploded diagrams of the different sections of the outboard. You'll find them for your outboard at the link below, with detailed parts lists. Study these before disassembling, and do searches here on this forum if you have questions:

http://www.ishopmarine.com/ishop/js...&path=BMC~A0000021~M0007009~M0007032~M0007033
