Hey guys,

Just looking for some suggestions here about the reels. Maybe within the 100-130 +/-. I only fish saltwater about 5-6 times a year so I'm not looking for the best but something a recreational angler can still depend on.

Most of my fishing is for blue fish, spanish mackeral, speckled trout, red drum, occasionally a small shark, false albacore, cobia and baracuda.

If you have a suggestion that is a little above the price range but know it's a good product, go ahead and share please.

By the way, I've been using bass rods and flipping sticks. What are some other options for light saltwater rods?

Thanks.

Re: Decent spinning and BC reel for light saltwater fishing

Personally, I have used the Penn "gold" series spinning reels for the past twenty years. They are the models 4500 5500 6500. I have caught everything from small trout and reds to shark and cobia. I am a boat fisherman and love to use lots of light line and eventually just wear them out. I take the reels apart every 3-4 years, clean and grease em and have had the same lot for the time mentioned. I also have an older Mitchell 302 that is over thirty years old, and at the ime it was new was a pretty expensive reel. I have learned also not to jet blast them with water when done fishing. Just a light spray with wd-40 and a wipedown.
