looking to put the cap back on the boat tommorrow and cannot decide between 5200 and a glassfibre polyester glue for the hull/deck joint?. Is either of the two methods more superior?. Value your comments. cheers and thanks, even125

5200. I prefer fast set. Make sure you mask the hull and the liner/cap first. Remove the tape an hour or two after you apply the 5200 and it will lay down nicely. Get a big can of WD-40 too. It can actually be used to clean up 5200. You are going to need it.

My Chris Craft came with clear silicone as a seal.

Had to cut it loose in 2003, boat is a 1987. Tough to scrape all the old stuff off. It was covered by a aluminum rail so exposure was limited. I plan on using the same thing when I go together.

Thanks for the replies I tried my damnest to find some 5200 around here and pulled a blank. I went to the second choice Bostic 920 marine adhesive and couldn't find any of that also.

I ended up buying a quality silicon/sikaflex that I have been assured will do the job by a fibreglass specialist salesman :) . Not sure what to do, I want 30 years out of the product. Guess I will use it and glass the inside join nice and solid - forever like, another 12lb above the waterline :( . thanks even125

If you have any airplane shops - repair, parts, etc. - check with them. They use 5200 in aluminum airplane work and often sell it at those shops.
