i left the boat on the trailer with bunks ..do you guys think there willl be some deformaties on the hull when i remove the stringers ? i plan on doing one side first then the other..i have a couple of questions 1)the old main stringers come from the dog house to right past the steering wheel should i make them the same way or should i run them all the way down? would that add strenght or weaken the hull?

2) as far as the engine goes i have a acces to a newer truck 350 engine 2001 .. would i have to replace all the hardware or would most stuff still work? is it worth it or just keep loking for the older model?

Wow that engine looks . . . impressively destroyed!

You seem to be going in the right direction. I would rebuild the stringers in the basic original configuration. While you might add a few braces etc, anything that is a significant design change is being done without the benefit of being able to stress analysis. Your hull with the stock stringers in good condition was seaworthy so to speak. You might build a stronger substructure that stresses the hull in a manner different than the design.

As to the truck 350

You would need a marine cam, brass freeze plugs, marine compatible gaskets and of course marine cooling system.

Accessories such as the alternator need to be spark protected for use in a marine environment. Marine water pumps tend to have different bearings and be bidirectional. Fresh water cooling systems on boats are more corrosive than antifreeze is in a car cooling system. Carburetors are different and don't use vacuum ports and so on and so forth.

Using the accessories off the old engine is going to save a ton of money if they are usable. Given the condition of the engine, I doubt you'll be able to salvage anything from the long block, but brackets and the fresh water water pump should transfer over.

marinizing an automotive engine is expensive, buying a boat with a running engine and a bad hull might save you a bunch of money.

oh the 78 engine has a two piece rear main seal

After 87 they went to a one piece and the block was altered slightly.

You need a motor with the two piece rear main seal to fit your outdrive.
Given the condition of the engine-I'd be suspicious of the outdrive and make sure it is usable or budget for it's replacement.

How is the transom?

Impressive gantry! How long of a timespan are we looking at?

It's funny how nice boats look from the outside, then you look inside and wonder.. WTF exploded in here?!

what could have gone wrong to affect the outdrive if anything? just wondering.. is it expensive to take to a boat mechanic to have it checked?

dont know exactly how to do core samples but today i drilled 4 holes at the bottom of the hull from the inside and what looked like dry wood came off the 1/2 inch bit... anything else i should be doing?

its funny you ask..well today i was told i have till june 1st and then i have to get the boat out:mad: i had a deal with a friend, i help him build a fence 200ln ft and a shed and i can keep my boat there for a year.. so 3 months later know that the fence is up and im spending all my time on the boat and not on his house he wants me out!!!!:confused: so i guess now im on a time crunch atleast to finish up all the grinding and complete the deck...
