As corny as it may seem...

My thousandth Iboats post is dedicated to my high school class president and casual friend who I learned last night, lost her battle with stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma yesterday morning. She was just 28 years old. :(

I didn't speak to her much after high school, short of email exchanges about reunions, and posts on Face Book cheering her on during her fight. But she was always sweet to me and everybody else through high school, and welcomed me with a big hug and long conversation during our 5 year class reunion 5 years ago.

She leaves behind a son who just turned 1 (this is what bothers me the most), a husband of 3 years, and of course many family members and friends.

God speed Danielle...
Rest easy, your battle is over.

Not corny at all. My condolences. I lost a good friend in May to the same disease.

I know its hard .. but I would suggest something ..

The " better to burn out than to fade away " is not true to those that Empathize with people/family ..

Trust me when I say this .. Your one of the lucky ones ( and those that read this thread ).

We all must Die .. thats a part of living .. Its not our Own death that we are too consumed of.. its the living that now has passed on/died/gone/moved to a Higher place/etc .. whatever your spiritual belief is not in question.

Its the Time We have with each other thats important ! ..

Lose a friend or a family member with just a phone call " Hey.. um.. yea .. um.. X is Dead " .. OR ..

Lose a friend or family member with " Im dieing son .. we have 6 months to go " .

I choose the goodbye time apposed to the walk up somebody ... If you know what I mean ..

MY Condolance in any regards of how you take this ..

YD.

I agree with yacht dr on the id rather have the goodbye time. I've been on the receiving end and also the giving end of having to wake/be woken up to that phone call.

You have my and my family condolences and prayers. May she find peace and be free from pain. May god walk beside her and shelter her. May god smile warmly upon her family so they know she is at peace.

Gentlemen, thank you for your kind words.

Her goodbye time was very brief...
She knew about a month ago that her cancer was terminal. But terminal can mean anywhere from weeks to months to years. She was on a new experimental drug that is supposed to basically eat the tumors. She was the second one with her form of cancer to try the drug. She went in for a PET scan this past Saturday, and was given the news that she only had 2-3 weeks left. By Monday morning she had succumbed to her affliction. I'm guessing after hearing the devastating news she gave up. After months of being very sick, I don't blame her.

We were a graduating class of a little over 90 students from a small trade school (450 students between all grades). I know the inevitable happens as years pass, but she was the last one I would have expected to expire first. She was smart, beautiful, and obviously had allot to live for. She is the only person who I could think of in our class that could glue all the different groups/clicks/shops together. Everybody liked her, and everybody was an equal in her eyes. For these reasons, it's beyond my level of understanding why she was taken so soon.:( I only hope it was part of a bigger plan, and the words Henry Scott-Holland apply (http://www.wowzone.com/death.htm). I take solace in knowing she lived by her faith.

We have a reunion coming up in November that she was planning, and planned on attending. Our 5 year reunion was great. Filled with laughter, stories, and the drunken shenanigans of 23 year olds... I'm proud to say we were probably one of the very few reunions who decided it was a great idea to end up at a nudie bar for the after party (this was a completely off the cuff thing), she joined us naturally :D. This one coming up I know for sure will have an entirely different tone all together. It will be a reunion for the remembrance of her, and It will be my honor to attend.

Sorry if this is been a downer guys, but this has been really bothering me. Most outside this community would think I would need my head examined for posting something like this on a boating forum. But interacting with you guys has been a big part of my day for the past year. Thanks again for the kind words, and giving your time to read this.
