Can someone please explain the difference? On my boat I have a stowaway deep cycle that I use to start my engine. For my trolling motor I have an everstart that runs the trolling motor. The everstart also says deep cycle/trolling on the side of it. Could the stowaway be used for trolling?

Howdy, Sivy.

I think you need to switch your batteries.

Deep cycle batteries are intended for long service on light loads, like your troller.

Starter batteries are used for short, heavy loads like starting engines and for powering electrical accessories while the engine's charger is working.

The Everstart dual purpose battery is a fairly new type which is suitable for both uses and for single battery installations. That is what I use for everything. It works great.

I think you will get better results using your Stowaway for the troller and the Everstart for starting and your other electrics.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

I just reread my post. It is not clear.

You need to replace one of your batteries with either a starting battery or a dual purpose, Starting/Trolling battery and use that for starting.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
