found a leak in lower unit bought replacemnt gaskets for hole and am replacing . When I first took the bought out it was a gift ha . Engine wouldn't shift into forward or reverse. engine ran fine. a little smoke its been sitting. I got the manual and it says the shift is in forward to start. If this is true have I a blown lower unit. I will fill with gear box fluid this week and test. Should I test electrical neutral and reverse. When I put gear case oil in lower end will that make the forward gear selonoid tale effect. You guys are a great! Its a 40 johnson evirun 1970
