New to boating. I have a 1990 Johnson 225 that I want to clean up (lots of grease and grime). After I use the degreasing spray, what's the best thing to use to prevent salt-water corrosion (wd40?)
thanks

After you use the degreaser, hot soapy water, and a paint brush works well. I would try something else for a protective coat. WD-40 never dries, let's see what some of the other guy's use as they come along to this post.

do not use WD-40 on any hoses or they will crack and break

CRC makes good stuff
T-9 is good
Corrosion block and corrosion X is good
Volvo makes a good stick substance that is very very hard to wash away

Bull, WD40 is fine. I've used it for many years on an '85 J 140 I sold last year. The motor was almost solely used in saltwater and the PH looked almost new when I sold it. Every fall I degreased the PH, let it dry and sprayed a lot of WD40 on it. Nothing degraded or needed replacing (no hoses, wires, etc.) and there was almost zero corrosion. There are other sprays which may be better, but WD40 is not going to harm anything on hte PH.

I don't soak mine with WD-40, but I do use it. Just a light mist seems to do the job. Been doing that for years for lay-up....

Boeshield T-9 Leaves a waxy film that will not wash off easily. I have used it for a long time on my Jeep and on the Outboard Engines. It was developed for aircraft by Boeing Company. I personally believe that it is the best product for corrosion prevention.

Lubrimatic Corrosion Pro is good, and less expensive. I use that on the trailer and the motor midsection. It leaves a stable grease film.

All of our boating is in salt water.

BTW, the proper quantity of anodes for your entire setup is the best preventative for corrosion.

I've been a salt water boater for over 35 years. I buy WD-40 by the gallon and use a squeeze spray bottle. There is no trick to it. After every use I fresh water flush. take the cowl off and squeeze away - - AFTER EVERY USE.
