HI,

I have a 30' Trojan and the cabin is starting to get VERY Musty, damp and smelly. I've seen Dehumidifiers in West Marine & Boat US and was wondering if you guys had any special preference, which one works and which ones are a waste of time.

Thanks,
Lou

I have a Kenmore one that runs off regular 110VAC. I bought it at Sears. I use it in my basement and boy does it work! I store my boat in my garage, and after a day of boating, I leave all the compartments open. I run it overnight and in the morning there is about 2 gallons in the catch bucket. The air is dry and doesn't smell damp anymore. Well worth it.

Believe it or not, those little buckets of calcium cloride (I think), Work very well. Store our boat in a covered but not closed lean too. Put a few in and keeps the musty down real nice.

Have seen people poke holes in the bucket set it right in an area that auto drains, such as shower or bilge no worries about spilling water then.

A standard home dehumid. works great,we use it all the time.It will help with the musty smell. What works great for the odors and musty smells is an ozonator. We have one at work and I borrow it once in a while.I leave it on overnight and it kills all mold and bacteria and leaves an almost bleach-like smell. If you can find one give it a try.The crystals in the little tubs only work in a dry boat to help keep it dry, they wont dry out a damp boat. After you get it dried out with the dehumid. try leaving a fan running and a light on,it will make a big difference. As you can tell, been there-done that!!
