I have a 454 merc a/b battery, and this year I am experiencing a delay in starting when I turn key over. Seems like 1-2 seconds before my starter kicks in. Any suggestions? Terminals on both battery's were cleaned.
Thanks

Re: delay in starting

You've got corrosion issues somewhere in the starting circuit....
The only way to find it is, Trace the system through....

I'd put a small light on the starter trigger wire and turn the key, and see if hte light goes on right away or not. Most likely its your starter itself, or the battery connection to the starter.

-- Joe

Thanks for your suggestions. I thought it was a corrosion issue somewhere. I'll start cleaning things process of elimination. Thanks again
