Does anyone have or know a link to get an exploded view pic of a delco-remy single wire alternator? My motor is a 140 GM 181 c.i. 1976
Is this all that is required on this alternator, one wire( a red/white wire) and a ground? There is a single rectangle opening on the side near the back,, where it looks like a plug of some kind should fit. There is no plug like this in my wiring harness. Seems there should be something connected there as it leads to the brush assembly. Thanks for any help.

Re: Delco-Remy Alternator?

Did you pick up a marine unit or are you trying to use an automotive piece? The one wire alterenators usually have a regulator that doesn't require the sensing wire, even if the plug opening is there. Usually on the marine units that spot is capped. There is a two pronged plug that goes in there, one of the wires is the sense wire and the other wire would have gone to an idiot light in an automotive application. You just make sure the case is grounded and hook the main post on the alternator to the charging wire that runs to the battery, no other wires are required. Of course there will be no plug like that in your wiring harness because that unit would not have been used on your boat.

You are right beltran, I realized that after I had already posted, I forgot that I had taken off the back cover, no wonder I did not see that rectangle before.
But , I still need a diagram for this unit. All it says on it is delco remy and some numbers on the inside of back. Just trying to see if I could maybe clean it up and put it back together and see if it will start working. Thanks
