Just installed a Delco est and cannot got the boat to start. Is there a specific starting point to start the plug wires into the distributor from? All I got for instructions was how to wire up the tach, and ignition

you still have to line up cylinder 1 when you install the distributor

with the motor at TDC on cylinder 1, make sure the rotor is pointing to tower #1 for the cap. then follow the firing order

the instructions assume you know how to install a distributor

Ok can I find it by lining up one of the timing marks to the flywheel?

Sorry I have zero experience on working on carbureted/ distributor engines

Ok so now I can get it to start buy it dies as soon as I stop cranking. Was I supposed to wire in the red switch from the alternator as well as the purple? I read NOT to do that.

Sounds like the coil Positive terminal is not wired correctly. Get voltage when key is in Start, but not in Run.
