deposits inside carb

Took my carburator apart to clean it, found some sort of deposits inside float bowl and other spots. Color is white and grey. The deposits scrape off fairly easily, but since I can't scrape everywhere (inside passages, for instance), I'd like to use some sort of solvent to get rid of them.<br /><br />I've tried the following solvents (basically everything in my garage):<br /><br />Gumout carb and choke cleaner<br />Kroil<br />WD-40<br />Acetone<br />Laquer thinner<br />acetone<br />Mineral spirits<br /><br />None of these seem to do anything.<br /><br />Suggestions?<br /><br />Russ

Run down to the local E/J dealer and get some Engine Tuner when you get the carb kit(s). Soak the carbs in that. You should be good to go.<br /><br />Good luck!

When you finished cleaning your carbs, run the engine briefly and then change the fuel filter as its probably full of the white stuff as well.

I have run into the also in carb's. It appears to be a lime deposit left over from water contamination. Clean, and blow out the carbs with laquer thinner to remove oil traces'. Soak in white vinegar, then follower with carb cleaner.

If you live in an area where fuel has ethanol added (or if it is just now being introduced), that white powdery residue can be blamed on the cleaning aspects of the ethanol. In the midwest when ethanol was first used, older engines suffered all sorts of problems from gasket failure to loosening of fuel system deposits. It was common practice to carry an extra fuel filter or two. I've rebuilt auto carbs that have had nearly a teaspoon of this stuff in them. Newer equipment now has ethanol friendly fuel system components.
