I need to replace the in-dash depth finder in my '94 Stratos. I initially tried a Hawkeye that I bought off Ebay - big mistake as this thing only seems to work when it wants to (glued the transducer in the hull). It'll read fine for a minute, then freeze up and throw readings all over the place. Anyone have recommendations on a decent in-dash flasher with the intent to glue the transducer in the hull? I don't need it to do anything but give me the depth at speeds up to 65 mph (not concerned with temperature or speed). I've heard the Vexilar FL 10 might be a good option but don't really want to shell out $200 plus. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: depth finder

i want to say that some transducers glued inside the hull need at least an inch of water to properly work something to do with going threw the fiberglass. just something to try i thought it was stupid when i read that in the directions when i put a fish finder on last spring. didn't make sense launch boat put a bucket of water in boat to make it work but its what i read. worth a shot before you compleatly can the unit.
