depth gauge not working

What are some ways i can diag the depth sounder gauge in my 2000 sea ray 230?.Its a factory installed gauge and im assuming the transdocer is inside the bilge area cuz there is nothing on the transom. The gauge wont even come on in the water. i checked it has power to it though.?????

My 2007 Sea Ray 210 has the transducer mounted approximately 12 inches in front of the engine. About 2 inches in diameter and sits about 2 - 3 inches high. Start with making sure that everything is connected and free of any corrosion.

What brand and model is your depth gauge? I had a Hummingbird HDR-600 that was a POS (tried two...). Replaced it with an HDR-610 and it's been working great.
