what is a reasonable price one should expect to pay to get the outside of a boat completely detailed. the boat is a 21' and is a 1996. what is "included" or should be done? My main concern is getting the mildew off the top rails but I would also like to try and get some shine back on the boat. I was quoted $700 for the works, but the works wasnt explained to me. Is that the going rate?

Re: detailing

I've personally been quoted $20 - $25 per foot of boat for "detailing", in my case it was a full compound and polish of the hull, and top cap (not the inside necessarily, just everything from the rubrail up to and including the gunwales.) Complete 'detail' of the inside of the boat, every single crevice cleaned, any carpets (even snap ins, and carpet in your ski locker, etc.) steam cleaned, all vinyl/upholstery, and the engine/engine bay detailed.

I am actually torn right now, between paying the above price to have someone else do it.. or just buying a professional buffer and materials to do it myself. I know its a lot of hard/tedious work doing it yourself, but I have the time (at the moment, off from work..) and I do take pride in doing things myself.
