Determin a motor with wrong ID tag???

Hello, I bought a Ranger 375v recently with an Evinrude 150 hp on it...or so I thought. When I ran the ID numbers on the mounting bracket, it comes back as a 115 hp Johnson. I can tell the bracket has been repainted to from white to match the light blue metalic Evinrude color. Is it possible to swap out a larger motor onto the original bracket? Or, did someone just switch the engine cover or glue different letters on it? How can I tell elswhere on the motor what it is? It is a V6, and it runs great. It says VRO on the hood, but there is no oil reservoir on the boat, and somethings were unhooked that I believe is the VRO pump, but have not worked on any of these type systems to know exactly what to look for. Is there any way to know for sure what I have? Thanks
Jeff

Look for a "freeze plug" on the block. Unless it has been replaced it will have the model number stamped on it. Post it back here and someone will tell you what you have.

This is the casting plug on the top of the engine to look for. It is probably painted, but may have some valuable information regarding the powerhead. This engine tag shown is for a high performance 150, the "S" model. Further, it is a CO, which is a 1985 year. Good luck

The "S" means a GT(Johnson) or XP(E-rude) model...

Ahh, awesome info! Found numbers to be E150TLCDC. 1986 150 hp! The other numbers are J1137071. Serial # correct? So, how can I determine if the VRO has been bypassed?
Thank you so much!

If the oiling system has been removed or bypassed there will likely be no oil resevoir tank in the boat (separate from the engine). The hose and wire harness running from that tank to the engine will either be disconnected, plugged, or missing. The fitting on the engine where the oil line attached will be plugged if the injection pump is still installed, or if the oil injection pump is gone, it will have been replaced with a standard (non-oiling) fuel pump. The electrical harness that originally connected to the injection pump will likely still be laying in the bottom of the cowl.

There is a barbed fitting next to the fuel line that has nothing hooked to it on either side. There looks to be a new fuel pump, and several unhooked wires. A two wire solenoid at the upper part of the power head is also unhooked. So, if this it bypassed, what is the oil fuel ratio? Would it be 50:1?

50:1 is correct TCW-3 oil

Thank you all very much for the great info! I'm sure I'll have more questions later on.
