I'm looking at a 9.9 Nissan motor on Craigslist, and the owner says he bought it used, but the model and serial no. plate is worn down so much that it's unreadable. It's a two-tone, with grey forward and a red stripe, then blue with the 9.9 logo on the blue background. I've got a 9.9 model C, that's solid silver, but when did Nissan change colors? Also, are parts readily available for this age motor?

Is there a serial number stamped on the block anywhere?

Nissan changed from the blue (lower unit) & silver/blue/red cowling to a gray color in 1992. The 9.9C models came out around 1993 so yours is probably the older 9.9B version.

That's what I wanted to know. Thanks a lot!...are parts still available for these older models? I haven't traveled to see the motor yet, as it's over an hour's drive away.

The same wp kit fits the B and the C. However, no carb kits for the B anymore, so be careful. If you get a B, be sure to treat the carb as what is... made of "unobtanium".
