Re: determining mounting distance for twin outboards
There are a couple of schools of thought here. As close together as possible is what most offshore racers go for on V bottoms. As far apart as possible gets a more stable (level) ride. And the further apart they are the less each prop interferes with the other. You have to be far enough apart that the motors wont hit when you go hard over in either direction.

In any case, and we're assuming you have a V bottom, you want to line up each motor on a lifting strake. (And dont worry if one strake is not exactly the same distance from the keel as the other) If there are no lifting strakes then its up to you.

If there are multiple lifting strakes and you cannot center on one, the go evenly between them.

The AV plates will then line up with the bottom at that point. Obviously the AV plate will be slightly above the bottom on the inboard side and slightly below on the outboard side. Its only a starting point anyway. Your props will determine your final X dimension.

If youre filling in the cut-out and going with a bracket, then remember the further back you go, the higher you can go. Go far enough back to allow for full tilt.

We've found that for best handling the toe in will be 1/8" to 3/8", 1/4" is fine. Dont be afraid to try the counter rotation gearcase on the starboard side.

Without more detail about your set up and which motors, thats about all the general advise we can give.
