i have an unknown prop.it reads levenson 8 OCP 86. stainless steel
im wondering if there is a way to find the pitch of this prop.im a carpenter so i have an angle finder(scissor like tool) as well as angle locator(dial like tool) these may not work but what do i do? i assume the diameter is as simple as wrapping something around prop and measuring but the pitch is my curiosity.would def. like to use the s.s. prop.thanks for any help
p.s. im hoping to start motor after rebuild this weekend so i cant just swap props and see rpm change as of yet

Re: determining prop pitch

Diameter is the distance from the center to the outermost tip of a blade times two. Other measurements are too complicated. Pitch is the distance the prop will travel in one turn (in a perfect world). There are other factors in that than angles.

About all I can suggest is to run it against other similar props. If speed and RPMs match another prop, you can assume that it is the same pitch. Otherwise if it makes your motor run top recommended RPMs (5500?), that's what's most important.

A prop shop can use a pitch block to check the pitch.
