Determining Shift Type

Hello All,

How would I go about determining if I have an electronic shift or a mechanical shifter in my mid 80's 140 Johnsons. I'm inclined to think their mechanical, but I don't know where to look for the information. If they are mechanical like I think, would hypoid 90 be the appropriate lube for the lower end?

Thanks,
Duke1

Re: Determining Shift Type

Anything in mid 80s would be mechanical. I'm a believer in using the right stuff from BRP dealers. Those gearcases are pretty highly stressed. Oil is cheap compared to the alternative.

FR,
Thanks very much. Your right about the oil, I'll take that advice and get some BRP oil.

Thanks again,

Re: Determining Shift Type

By law everything from 1973 & newer has to have a positive neutral. Basically that means mechanical shift.
