Is there any boat valuation websites that are reliable.

I've looked on NADA and they seem to be WAY off what NADA says. Is there anything better?

Re: determining value of used boats

I just bought a boat, a 1995 sailfish 176 cc for 4K

This is what I have learned

The websites give you the basics and have very little statistics to back them up.

What do you want in a boat, is the very basic cause of wanting to buy

According to NADA I paid 2K more then they recommend

Why?

I liked the center console, the boat was built to be in Florida open Ocean,
The hull and transom is solid, Note I did some research on Sailfish and asked them a lot of questions
17 to 19 feet is the biggest I can tow
The motor was questionable since it had not been run for over a year
I figured this way, for here (in Socal) this is a decent boat and the others I looked at didn't quite meet the picture in my mind
I bought the boat knowing the hull is solid and if I needed I would have to buy another motor from 4 to 6 K
I see it this way I have the boat I want (with a new motor if need be) four less than 10 K

I did good

This is a buyers market right now, read the posts regarding experiences in buying boats and getting more than you bargained for

Be well

And thank you Iboat for helping me make what I think a good decision

...man if its a buyer's market you sure wouldn't know it in Dallas, TX.

Decent boats at fair prices go very very fast here, like in a matter of hours. Nothing I've looked at is anywhere close to what NADA says.

Even if I do a search nationwide on a particular type of boat, they are all way over NADA.

www.bucvalu.com is another boat resource. You can sign up for free and look up your boat.

Re: determining value of used boats

Welcome to iboats.

Consider that MOST dealer's are looking to make 3-4 K over to make a profit on a used boat. People then negotiate and get it knocked back $1K and even though they are paying OVER nada they think they got a good deal on a rare used boat.

Published prices are the starting point for negotiations. If a dealer insists that is a firm price .....just walk away and they usually follow you ;)

Now if you are looking real hard for a specific boat..... they might be rare and priced accordingly.

Have you checked the iboats boat listing? http://www.iboats.com/boats/

certain boats in certain areas are always in more demand so a premium price can be asked and gotten.
