I recently recieved this boat from a friend who thought he blew the engine up 5 years ago, after getting it home I figured out it was just the gears in the lower unit. Anyway, it has a Detmar dual cable rack and pinion steering unit. Both cables are froze up. I have removed the complete steering system. I have finally found out Detmar is out of business. Does someone make replacement cables to fit my helm? Or do I need to replace the hole system. I am running an 1986 Johnson 150, everywhere I read it says 150 has to have the 2 cable steering, but I have been reading up on the teleflex single no feedback system. some say this will do. I am new to all of this so I would appreciate some input. I don't go out on the water and run as hard as it will go. I'm pretty much just a putter, except when pulling the kids on the tube. Somebody please help! Oh, almost forgot, the boat is a 1986 19ft HydraSport.
