Dewaxing small area in dingy

I have a small interior area where I replaced fiberglass. This is just a cheap dingy, do I need to buy the expensive boat store dewaxer before painting? I hate buying these expensive Marine store products if I don't have to. Will Acetone be good enough for a small 24" x 24" area?

Thank you, appreciate the response. Since the merger of the Marine superstores the prices of even the most basic of things has become absurd. I hate them.

Its a couple of bucks more but MEK is also very good. Its just like Acetone but evaporates a little slower. It has a strong smell so make sure you vent the work area. I like it because it is cheaper than marine dewaxer and allows a little more time to wipe it off. In fact, I think you are paying for less smell in the marine stuff. (but it is pretty strong smelling too)
