Overheated, checked compression (60 lower, ~ 85 upper?) thought it was a stuck thermostat, got it running again, almost overheated again but then got to the ramp to pull it for the season.

0 compression in both starboard cylinders.

I understand the head and head gasket is shot, but what happened in these photos?

If i put a new head gasket and head on, would this engine live a couple more seasons?

The only way to find out is to get a new cylinder head and gasket, and do a compression check.
Those cylinders a purdy scarred, and a compression check will help you decide the next step.
What caused the overheat? Thermostat? Waterpump?

Also what year an hp is this motor, will the cylinder heads interchange? You could remove the other head and put it on the starboard side to do a compression check.

I'm not quite sure what caused the overheat. In another thread a guy pointed out there may have been some blockage in the head passages. The water pump was still pissing when i got it restarted. Maybe it wasn't pushing enough water. The port top cylinder was 100psi. I couldn't check the bottom due to a really lousy heli coil job by the previous owner. It's a 140 i hear around 87 small bore looper.

Ok I found your other post, and yes you need to remove the other head and check for plugged water passages as suggested. Also one of my rules on buying a used motor, is to first replace the water pump. (a person never knows how old the pump is until it is too late)

What's the model number of that engine?

No such thing as a quick repair of that powerhead. I've never seen a head damaged between cylinders as bad as that one....... water had to be entering those two cylinders for a long long time.

A gasket failing such as that is usually due to the head bolts not being torqued properly in the first place "OR" the engine was overheated bad due to some other reason at one time resulting in having various powerhead bolts loosened AND never retightened/torqued back to factory specifications.

Choices...... Tear down the powerhead, inspect all damage and figure repairs to rebuild "OR" Replace the powerhead, "OR" chaulk the experience up to a bad day and replace the engine.

Doing patch work just to get it running will have those damaged scored pistons and connecting rods flying thru the side of the crankcase in a matter of hours.

No... it is rebuild/repower time for that engine. Most likely reason was as JoeR stated'imprpper torque. PO may have removed head ,installed helicoil and reinstalled it on old head gasket. If you still need head i got em...
