My '87 Evinrude V4 90 horse has OMC controls hooked to it. Right above the ignition switch, there is a plastic "dial" that can be grabbed and turned with one's fore finger and thumb. Right above that "dial" are the cables coming out of the controls. I don't have a manual for the controls, and the Seloc I've ordered for the motor hasn't arrived in the mail yet. Even if I had it, I'm not sure it covers the controls.

My question is simply what is that "dial" for? I can turn it either clockwise or counterclockwise, but I don't see anything happening when I do. I thought it may have something to do with tightening up the cables, but the more I look at those cables, the more I think they are tighted with the set screws where they are connected to the motor. Maybe it has something to do with the choke that's activated when the key is pushed into the ignition????

Thanks in advance for any thoughts,

Mark
Minneapolis, MN
