Did Humminbird improve their quality?

I am interested in the new Humminbird all-in-one sonar/GPS with the side scan feature. I know that Humminbird took a roasting for many years about the quality and performance of the products so I am wondering if there has been a change and if their stuff is now worth a look.
Does anyone with any actual experience of these new units have anything good or bad to say about them?
Thanks...W

They talk about them at crappie.com a lot and the people that use them seem to really like the new side scanning units. I wish Lowrance would come out with one.

I have always been sceptical about their products, but the side scan is something else. I cannot wait till I get one. (by then it will be old technology). They are beginning to be somewhat common on my local lake, and everybody LOVES them. The only thing is, they say go for the 997, with the bigger screen. The ones that have the smaller screen size (I believe the 797) wish they had gotten a bigger one.

You shouldn't be, like all manufacturers, they farm out different units to different builders worldwide many different manufactoruers use the same companies actually with just slightly different cases. The hummingbird as far as freshwater bass and walleye web groups go probably took over first place/most popular long ago and not because of price.
