AHHH I went to reroute the Positive wire(Real Quick) and It touched the starter housing and tried to start the motor. Put everything back where it belongs and now the starter will spin, but will not move up to engage the flywheel. What happened? What should I do?

Thanks,

Rick

With key off, try turning the bendix by hand. It should move up towards the flywheel as you turn it. It should turn fairly easy.

When my starter would spin but would not move up to engage the flywheel it was because I blew my rectifier by hooking up the battery backwards (whoops!!).

Sprinkler, the starter and motor should run off the battery even if the rectifier is shot.

Jerry

Well, I got an education tonight! Not sure if I "fixed" it but it is working. I took apart the starter. Sanded what I thought should be shiny and cleaned off some carbon. Put it back on and it fired right up. Who knew. The innards of a starter are pretty cool.

Rick
