Did I stump everybody on this?

:) I'm doing a carb re-build on an 81 Merc 7.5 (as it idled fine, but then dies out once it's put in gear) and in doing so noticed that the throttle shaft coming off the top of the carb isn't connected to anything above - it doesn't make sense to me, as this is what opens the flap, but it's the first time I've worked on this motor, so I'm looking for help. The part(s) I'm talking about are no's 32-36 on this diagram:
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...7&bnbr=10&bdesc=TOP+COWL+AND+STARTER+ASSEMBLY

but everything that's shown there is exactly what I have, nothing broken or missing. Other than connecting the bottom arm to the top of the trottle linkage, I don't see where this connects to anything else that would allow it to affect the throttle butterfly when the throttle lever is turned, or am I missing something? HELP & THANKS!!! :)

not stumped
go to that same page and click on flywheel and ign components. look at item 14,trigger assy. the ramp on the trigger moves the carb throttle link.
you missed it :) :)
you need to look a bit closer at the relationship to all the subassemblies when playing with tinymites

The plastic arm on the pop of the carb should contact a plate that is attached to the bottom of the stator plate which should open the butterfly as you open the throttle, if that is working ck for a broken throttle shaft

Re: Did I stump everybody on this?

Thanks a ton everybody - I knew someone here had to know the answer - everyone on this site's always been super knowledgable/helpful - much appreciated! Rod, I did see that there is something that rotates under the flywheel when the throttle lever is twisted - it's connected to an arm and shaft that adjust the timing, and I checked to see if any of this was even close to contacting the arm that is attached to the throttle shaft linkage, but it isn't. I wonder if maybe one of the arms needs to be rotated on the shaft to allow it to contact that the trigger assy, or if something's snapped off the trigger assy. preventing it from contacting that arm. I'll check out the diagrams on BAM. THanks again guys!!

Re: Did I stump everybody on this?

Hum, I checked out the assy at item 14, and it looks like I've got everything there on my motor, nothing broken, but I do note on the drawing at the link above, that the arm appears to have twisted. Right now, it's in the shape of a "z", but if I'm looking at that schematic right, the top arm should be perpendicular and at a right angle to the lower arm and carb. Because the throttle linkage was twisted on the shaft (only allowing the butterfly to open 1/8 turn) and the above arm was twisted and stuck under the pull start housing, I'd say it's probable that the arms are therefore twisted on the shaft. I'll try rotating it tonight and let you know how it works out. Again, I just want to say how much I appreciate it. This motor's been in the shop for 4+ weeks until I just decided to pull it and do the work myself - which I would NEVER have been able to do, or have the courage to attempt, where it not for you guys. I did the impeller in 20 mins., and frankly, removing the lower unit off had me worried, but everything went perfectly fine (now I'm just waiting on the part, and then re-assembly... I'll probably be back once that starts :)) Have a great weekend everyone, sorry for ranting on, I just want you to know that your time/knowledge is really appreciated!
