or 4HP twin for wards or sears in the 60`s to 80`s.In a search for a good old motor was wondering if the Sea Kings or any Sears models might really be the 4HP twin deluxe with reverse? Also, aprox what years did Johnson&Evinrude make the 10HP?I had a 61 model and it was a dandy.

I can't answer the question regarding sears. However a 10hp was made from 1949 thru 1963.

OMC's Gale division made engines for Montgomery Ward (Sea King) in the 50s but I don't think they every made engines for Sears and I don't think they supplied the wonderful little 3 and 4hp engines to anyone else.

If you can find a JohnnyRude 4 Deluxe with gearshift you have the best little outboard ever made, and worth paying a bit more for the brand name.

Sears engines were Elgin brand for awhile who were made by West Bend/Chrysler/Force conglomerate (as I recall). That's when they were green. Friend had a little 7 1/2. Then later the Ted Williams white dudes in the '60 time frame was made by McCullough.....I had a 9.9 one of those low visablilty dudes. Great little engine but the exhaust was above the anti-vent plate and as soon as you got on plane, the exhaust port was uncovered and the noise was unbearable.

Not much help but best I can do.

(The little Johnny/rude 3 hp that they had back in the '50's with the weedless lower unit was one little "stealthy" dude. Really excelled at what it was built to do.)
