did trailers even have vin numbers in 1963?

Hello, i live in florida and im trying to register my trailer which has no vin # and no title, they say i need the vin but im not even sure they had em in 63. I could get a homemade title but that requires me to weigh just the trailer, which is a little hard to do with the boat on it, lol. Im not sure if its the original trailer, it looks old. I do have a jon boat trailer that has a vin, but its registered as homemade for some reason, i was thinkin about switching the vin, but it'd be kinda sketchy. For now iv been using my dads "dealer" tag, but also sketchy,lol. Heres a pic, i always forget to take one while the boats in the water.thanks for your imput.

Yes, they 'did' have a VIN and it would be on the tongue, but after so many years the ones that had a foil tag have worn off, and stamped numbers rusted away or painted in with a refinish job.. If the paperwork is good, it's all good. If the paperwork is not there, you might have a problem

Nope, no paperwork for trailer, i actually have a fl title for the boat, which i thought was odd couse i heard that they didnt have em back then. When i registered boat they looked for the trailer, but they pulled up a few, so she said if i called him and got the one to my trailer they could do somethin, but Po said he never registered the trailer ( i think he said that, it was a while back). Damn i wish i had his phone#. Well i guess im screwed.

Do you need actual proof that you weighted the trailer? If not just come up with an estimate and run with it. In MN I was able to invent my own VIN and If a weight was needed (I don't remember) I made that up too.

Well im not sure how "not difficult" that would be, especially with my trailer, but its somethin to think about.

My trailer is 1965 and it has one starting with "A" and then it has i think like 5-6 numbers after that, kind of hard to see if you know where it is because it's under the boat welded onto main frame of trailer

The lady at the DMV was being pretty cool with me as mine came from WI which doesn't require registration so I had no title. I looked everywhere for the real number but found nothing. She insisted that it must have one so I stepped outside, went back in a couple minutes later and declared that it was 867-5309 (If you don't get it try singing it.....Tommy TuTone would be proud). She seemed happy with that so now it's official.

Lol thats a good one! ill probly just renew the regi on my little jon boat trailer (homemade) and stick the tag on this trailer. Im pretty sure no ones gona bother me, as long as im payin the man.
