Flappers have absolutely nothing to do with the engine when it's running. The exhuast pushes the water out. Any water that could possibly leak into the exhaust passage would be blowed out the exhaust immediatly, not into the cylinders.
No, water will not flatten plugs. I would guess there wasn't any indication of water in the cylinders when you pulled the plugs out to do a compression test?????

Re: died on plane

ok no water showed up, however just went out and replaced two plugs, started ran fine then it started missing and knocking pluged plugs now #2 plug was flattened, something floating around intake? put 3 and 4 plug in and started ran, then put #1 back in started i saw something fly by dont have a glue what it was it was very big, put #2 back in and started so far it sounds great, but not knowing what it was has me wondering if there is more of it and what it was, when i did the head on it this spring i checked the intake for what i could and it looked fine, thanks don i didnt think it would but was just asking about backwash, but when i think about it it did restart but ran like crap.
